Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) unveiled on Friday morning a street sign proclaiming Uniondale Avenue as Andrew Quarless Way, after Uniondale’s own Super Bowl champion.
Quarless was joined by his family, local elected officials and students from Uniondale High School, where he graduated in 2006. Quarless wears No. 81 and plays tight end for the Green Bay Packers, winners of the 2011 Super Bowl. He played college football at Penn State University.

Friday he joined Councilwoman Dorothy L. Goosby (D-Hempstead) and served as a guest speaker and a member of a roundtable panel at the town’s Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion. He told students at the afternoon event about the experiences that led him from Uniondale to the Packers, including a a troubled high school career and a suspension during college. He spoke earlier in the week at a graduation ceremony for teenagers at Nassau County Juvenile Treatment Court.
