ABRAHAMS ANNOUNCES ROAD IMPROVEMENT PLANS FOR THE FIRST DISTRICT IN 2007 CAPITAL BUDGET

Nassau Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) recently joined with Majority lawmakers in approving the $202 million capital improvement plan for 2007. The funds will go towards the improvement of the county’s infrastructure, including parks, roads, and public safety.

“By investing money in things that will improve the community, we are investing in our future,” Abrahams said. “We cannot allow the infrastructure of this County to deteriorate. Capital improvements are imperative to the quality of life our residents enjoy.”

The First Legislative District will see several capital improvements, including the rehabilitation of Brookside Avenue and Nassau Road, both in Roosevelt.

Brookside Avenue, connecting Freeport and Uniondale, will be resurfaced, have additional drainage installed, and left turn lanes added at the intersections of Cramer Court and Centennial Avenue. New curbs will be constructed to improve drainage and to provide a consistent road width to increase safety.

As part of the rehabilitation of the community center/downtown of Roosevelt, a program will be initiated to address the traffic conditions and other aesthetic concerns on Nassau Road, a vital gateway for local commerce. This project will fund traffic surveys and preliminary planning and construction for overall infrastructure improvements along this critical roadway.

“I am pleased that I was able to secure funding for many projects that still need to be completed,” Abrahams said. “I will continue to emphasize the importance of projects such as these in making our community a desirable place to live.”
